Venous insufficiency (also referred to as venous or vascular disorder) is a common condition effecting people of all ages, races and lifestyles. It is a condition in which the veins have difficulty performing venous return a function whereby deoxygenated blood is sent from the extremities back to the heart. Inadequate venous return increases hydrostatic pressure within the venous system, which can lead to the failure of venous valves and the onset of conditions including venous stasis, oedema, venous ulcers, thrombosis and deep vein thrombosis.
